Rockets Hit Stride, Advance to Semifinals in Easton

Three games and fifteen-plus hours at the Militia Park Baseball Complex in Easton sweating it out in 95-degree heat can sure go a long way towards making a bona fide team out of twelve baseball-crazed ten-year-olds. Between Thursday's bountiful 28-run slugfest and today's marathon AM-PM double-header, there was enough excitement on and off the field to stock Sports Center for a week. They made plays in the field--both routine and extraordinary. They strung together mammoth rallies producing an astounding 52 runs in three games, and seven different Rockets pitchers combined to hold opponents to a meager six earned runs over this stretch.

A more in-depth play-by-play will be available after the tournament, but for now we should shine a light on the three players who earned MVP honors in our three round-robin games. In our first game against Easton National, Matthew Dougherty went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk, RBI, and three runs scored. He closed the game out with two scoreless innings on the hill in what was in no way a save opportunity but nonetheless a rather impressive pitching performance. Game 2 featured William Popper, in a gutsy effort, pitching out of a jam to limit Upton to two runs and record the win for the Rockets. He also went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI. In our third round-robin game, Drew Siegenthaler spun a gem, scattering three hits over four shut-out innings to pick up the win. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored.

The Rockets emerged from their group undefeated and now advance to the semifinal round where we will take on Raynham tomorrow morning. If we win, we will advance to the tournament championship game, which will be played directly after the semifinals.
